Mobile plan: are you paying too much?
Most people switch mobile plans when their phone breaks, not when their plan gets expensive. The result: two in three Swedes pay more than they need to. This guide helps you calculate what you’re actually paying per GB and what you lose by not switching.
Why most people overpay
Mobile operators lock customers in with two-year contracts and then let the price stay or rise after the contract expires. New customers get better deals than loyal ones. That’s how it works.
Price per GB varies enormously. Some pay SEK 50/GB. Others pay SEK 5/GB for the same data. The difference doesn’t show on your screen but it shows in your wallet over time.

5 ways to cut your mobile bill today
- 1
Compare on Prisjakt or Compricer
Take five minutes and check what other operators offer. The difference can be SEK 150 to 300 per month for the same data.
- 2
Call your operator and negotiate
Existing customers often get discounts when they threaten to leave. Call, say you’ve found a cheaper option, and ask what they can offer.
- 3
Choose a small operator
Vimla, Hallon, Comviq and Fello are cheaper than the big players and use the same networks (Tele2/Telia). Quality is identical.
- 4
Buy phone and plan separately
Bundling them looks cheap but costs more per month. Buy the phone outright and choose a SIM-only plan instead.
- 5
Pay for exactly the data you use
Most people use at most 10 to 15 GB per month. If you’re paying for unlimited, you’re paying for something you don’t use.
